The distraught young lady... again
Remember that young lady who told me about her charming crush? Well, she is getting ready to go back to school, and I think he has been on her mind lately. He keeps coming up in conversation. Yesterday she shared the following insights about her young courtship... which looks a lot like regular, grown-up courtship... just with a different venue... and a tad more honesty.
student (looking sorrowful): Really, I only see him on the playground. And I have to chase him on the playground. I have to chase him for a long, long, long, long, looooong time. He always asks me to quit chasing him. My friends all tell me to quit chasing him. (sigh.)
me: So... why do you chase him?
student (wide-eyed earnestness): Because! When I try to stop, all I can hear in my head is "I think I love you!" and then I just start to chase him again!
Chapel
"Do you think, that when we lost our homes, or our jobs, and our car breaks down in the middle of the freeway... is that because of some sins we committed?"
It is the most freeing thing... to go somewhere with no conversation in mind but that of grace. What a thing it is to go somewhere where everything is busted, and everyone is so honest about it. Everything is groaning... it isn't "your" sin. It's our sin. Mine too. If we suffer, it isn't because God isn't just. If we have good things, it is all because he is merciful. His justice is justice that comes to us... and gives up all so that it can say we are just before Him. And then, the groanings are temporary... vanishing even. You might be stranded on the highway, but this, and all things, shall be made right. And that is what we don't deserve.
Is there any other conversation worth having?

I love this little girl... I want to be her best friend! She is so honest. And really, aren't we all seven year old little girls at heart when it comes to boys?
ReplyDelete"... but this, and all things, shall be made right." Indeed. What sweet words to ponder.
