seeds, leaven, nets, wheat, weeds, fields, trees, treasure, pearls, vineyards, feasts...

The kingdom of heaven... when you invite someone to be a part of it, it is like you are inviting them to a wedding feast thrown by the most abundantly worthy and wealthy person possible. (Matt. 22) Check: does my life look like an invitation to something so seriously joyous?

About this feast... if they don't make it in, (or if they make it in but do so wrongly, and are then kicked out,) they will be in a place of utter destruction. Check: does my life make the invitation look that serious?

Today, one of my favorite men held a baby who was brought into the world in an already broken body. He held her up, so we all could see... brand new, little tiny, so beautiful.... long paths of difficulty unwind before her in a way that made us all weep... but she didn't weep. She glowed. How could she weep when she was being held by such strong hands? These will be paths of grace... and in her radiance, she seemed to really know that...

Maybe that's something of what he meant... "unless you turn and become like children..."

Do you ever drive down bad streets? Goodness... maybe you live on a bad street. I don't live in such a place, but I do drive through them. Here is the thing: you can see a lot of destruction and decay... but such places never become very convincing. The more often I do such driving, the less convincing they become.

Same with that precious little baby's faulty body...

Take a good look, because it won't be that way for long.

"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
-Jn. 16:33-
