Still... So Thankful

There is nothing quite like a blustery walk across campus in the low-teens temperature to remind you that you are alive! Out the door and to the sidewalk: I'm suddenly aware of my toes. Walk hastily across two parking lots, cross several streets, through the parking garage... and I now remember fiercely that I have ankles, knees, elbows, fingers, ears, a nose... every part of me is more there than it has been since... last winter, I suppose. I'm so thankful for that reminder!

Also, thankful for the fact that salt melts ice. Can you imagine, I mean really imagine, what we would do if we didn't have a means of melting ice? On a day like today: little bit of ice and snow, everything would instantly grind to a halt.
When you start to think that man is pretty neat... just realize, he is completely reliant on salt to stay functioning in the winter. We can't even handle seasons without some pre-existing means of combatting them. There is grace all over everything... even all over the fact that we live in a world in which there is a way to undo freezing. Even that grace, the little round bits of it that crunch under my feet and keep me safe and upright as I walk to class... even that grace will be something we're asked about someday...
